Service
If you can specify it, we can install it.
Curved and bent glass, switchable smart glass, structural glass floors and walls, acoustic laminated, heritage replication, branded and engraved glass — the work the other glaziers say no to.
What it is
Custom commissions are the projects that don't fit a service-page category. A curved entry that requires bent toughened from a specialist plant. A switchable smart-glass partition that operates with one tap. A structural glass floor between two levels. An acoustic laminated wall to a road-facing room. A heritage replacement that has to match the wavy-float original.
These projects depend more on sourcing relationships, engineering coordination and an installer who can read a structural drawing than on standard install discipline.
Maison Glass operates in this space because the director comes from a façade-engineering background, and because the supply chain — Australian Curved Glass, Polytron, Glasshape, Schiavello Heritage Glass — is shorter than most clients expect.
When clients choose it
Where it fits.
- Curved and bent glass — tight- and tangent-radius panels in clear, toughened and laminated
- Switchable smart glass (PDLC) — clear when powered, opaque when off; partitions and dividers
- Structural glass — engineered floor panels, wall sections and treads, with engineering certification
- Acoustic laminated — an acoustic interlayer for road-, rail- or commercial-adjacent rooms
- Heritage replication — wavy restoration float, slimline IGUs and internal secondary glazing
- Branded, engraved and sandblasted glass — logos, frosted privacy designs, etched art glass
Materials & finishes
Specified by name.
- Sourcing
- Curved glass through Australian Curved Glass, Bent and Curved Glass, and Glasshape. Switchable PDLC through Polytron and Gauzy. Heritage glass through specialist restoration suppliers. International supply where domestic cannot service the project.
- Engineering
- Structural elements are engineered to AS 1170 loading with certification supplied. Every commission is reviewed against the relevant standard before fabrication.
Compliance
- AS 1288:2021 — glass-in-buildings selection.
- AS 1170 — structural loading, with certification for structural elements.
- AS 2047:2014, NCC 2025 and AS 1926.1-2012 — where windows, thermal performance or pool barriers apply.
Engineering certification is supplied for structural elements; every commission is engineered to the relevant standard.
Indicative investment
What it costs.
- Curved / bent glass
- from A$1,800 per m², to A$5,000+ per m² for complex architectural curves
- Switchable smart glass (laminated PDLC)
- from A$1,800 per m²
- Structural glass floor panel
- A$3,500 – A$8,000 per m²
- Acoustic laminated
- +50–100% over standard toughened
- Most custom commissions, installed
- A$2,500 – A$8,000 per m²
Lead times
Curved and bent glass 8–14 weeks; switchable smart glass 10–16 weeks; structural glass 12–20 weeks including engineering review; acoustic laminated 8–12 weeks; heritage replication 8–16 weeks. Confirmed at contract.
Indicative ranges only. Every quote is fixed, itemised, and names the glass, the standard and the hardware by line.
Questions
Frequently asked.
Where do you source curved glass?
Through Australian Curved Glass, Bent and Curved Glass, and Glasshape, with international supply where domestic capacity cannot service the radius or size. The supply chain is shorter than most clients expect.
Can switchable glass be retrofitted to existing windows?
Yes — PDLC smart film applied to existing glass is a lower-cost retrofit alternative to laminated switchable glass. It is less robust, but far easier to retrofit.
Can you match heritage glass in a period home?
Yes — wavy restoration float captures the character of 19th-century glazing, slimline IGUs add thermal performance within a heritage frame, and internal secondary glazing upgrades performance non-invasively.
Do structural glass elements need engineering sign-off?
Yes — structural glass is engineered to AS 1170 loading and the certification is supplied. We coordinate this with your architect and builder.
